Tips for Waterproofing Outdoor Wall Lights

Outdoor wall lights are a wonderful way to brighten your home, but not all of them are water resistant.outdoor wall light waterproof Make sure to keep this in mind when shopping for the right light and to not be alarmed if you find out that your new wall lights are not waterproof. It is very easy to clean up and the chances of your new lighting system being damaged are very slim.

The first thing you will want to do is measure the area you want to light in and buy the right sized light.outdoor wall light waterproof outdoor wall light waterproof If the outdoor wall light is going to be outside, it should be able to hang down from the ceiling and support itself by using the beams on either side of the ceiling. Also make sure that the light will stay in place and that it will not be swayed by the wind.

Next you will want to install the outdoor wall light and make sure that you use a water proof adhesive to hold it down to the wall. If you have a stucco exterior wall then you will want to purchase a paint sealant and let it dry. After the paint has dried, you will want to remove the stucco so that you can have a nice smooth surface for the lighting to sit on.

The next step is to get out a sponge and water and apply the paint evenly onto the new outdoor wall light. You will want to use a brush to smooth the paint so that it looks like a smooth finish. Once you have applied the paint you will need to wipe it away with a clean cloth or put it in the dryer for a minute or two, but do not scrub the paint off, just wipe it clean.

After you have cleaned up the paint, you will want to remove the stucco so that you can get the water proof adhesive to stick. Take some rubbing alcohol and some petroleum jelly and start to rub the stucco away. Be careful because there are small holes that will allow water to get through.

After you have the stucco removed from the outdoor wall light you will want to sand the edges. Do not use a sander that is too large or you will end up with a rough surface. You will want to add some more rubbing alcohol to the sanding and scrub away. Once you have sanded away you will want to apply a coat of wax to protect the paint from staining.

After you have the waxed off, you will want to apply another coat to the paint. Do not forget to put a coat of sealant over that one as well. This is very important as the second coat will create a barrier between the paint and the waterproofing adhesive and will keep the paint from sticking to the wall. If you have any concerns about how the second coat will look after it has cured, use a piece of masking tape to make a guess at how the paint will look.

If you keep these tips in mind when shopping for outdoor wall lights you should not have any problems with waterproofing your lighting system. Have fun!
